The four days Druk Path Trek is the most popular trek in the country as it fairly easy hike and the distance between the camps are short too. The trail passes through gorgeous natural landscape of blue pine forests, high ridges and pristine lakes while at the same time offering the opportunity to visit some ancient lhakhangs, dzongs and villages.
This trek also offers hikers a great view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the highest unclimbed peak in the world.
Day 1 : Arrive Paro
On arrival at Paro airport, you will be met by our representative and escorted to the hotel. On the same day we can also visit Paro town. We will then spend the night at the hotel in Paro.
Day 2 : Paro – Jele Dzong
Distance 8 km
Estimated time 3 hours
The Druk Path trek starts with a short climb up to Jele Dzong. The trek trail ascends gradually up to the camp. From the camp we will be able to see the gorgeous valley of Paro with the snowcapped mountains behind it. Above our camp Jele-la a pass and Jele Dzong which is at 3400 m of altitude.
Day 3 : Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha
Distance 10 km
Estimated time 3-4 hours
Start with an hour and a half climb and then gradually work your way up. The route takes you through dense alpine forests and alpine roses. If the weather is right, there are great views of Chomoihar and other snow-capped peaks.
You can see yak breeders at your campsite.
Day 4 : Jangchulakha – Jimllangtsho
Distance 11 km
Estimated time 4 hours
The route runs along the ridge, and on a clear day the views of the mountains and the valley are spectacular. You can enjoy amazing views of Jichu Drake (6989 m), the peak representing the protective deity of Paro. Our camp is located near the Jimilangtsho Lakes, famous for their huge trout.
Day 5 : JimiLangtsho – Slmkota
Distance 11 km
Estimated time 4 hours
The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and passes by the lake of Janetsho. Today you may come across some yak herder’s camps and get an idea of how these people live. We camp overnight close to Simkota Lake, and if you are lucky you can catch a lake trout for your dinner.
Day 6 : Simkota – Phajoding
Distance 10 km
Estimated time 4 hours
Today the gradual ascent begins and if the weather allows you, you will be able to enjoy majestic views of Gangkar Puensum and many other peaks. The road descends slowly through the junipers to a campsite next to the village gravel near the Phajoding cafe. For the night we can spend it in a cafe or camp, depending on weather conditions.
Day 7 : Phajodlng – Thimphu
Distance 5 km
Estimated time 3 hours
The trek to Thimphu is downhill all the way, passing through a forested area of mostly blue pine. Taking an easy talk and you will reach Thimphu in about 3 hours. Overnight stay at the hotel in Thimphu
Day 8 : Thimphu – Paro
For the final day in the country we will be visiting the following places in Thimphu:
National Memorial Chorten;
Tashichhodzong (the fortress of the glorious religion);
National Library;
Institute for Zorig Chusum (Bhutanese arts and crafts school);
National Institute of Traditional Medicine (outside only);
Handicrafts Emporium.
And by evening we will drive to Paro and spend the night there.
Day 9 : Paro Depart
After breakfast, we will drive you to Paro airport for flight to onward destination.
