Built by Peshwa Baji Rao I in the year 1732, Shaniwar Wada stands witness to a gruesome murder committed to satisfy the thirst for power and glory. In 1773, the then ruling Peshwa, Narayanrao was cruelly murdered by his own guards on orders of his uncle Raghunathrao and aunt Anandibai. This magnificent fort is until date known to be haunted by the voice of Peshwa, screaming for help on every full moon night.
This magnificent palace was built by Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah Agakhan III in the year 1892 and holds supreme position in the struggle for Indias freedom. The leader of Quit India Movement, Mahatma Gandhi, his wife Kasturba Gandhi and his secretary Mahadevbhai Desai were kept as prisoner in this palace. It holds the Samadhis of the latter two in a quiet garden in the palace. It was transformed into Mahatma National Memorial, which houses numerous paintings and photos depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

This fort was previously known as Kondhana and is said to be constructed around two thousand years ago.

Dagadusheth Halwai, a wealthy sweet seller, built this temple in 1893 to combat depression caused by the death of his son. He created murtis of Lord Ganesha under the guidance of his guru. Situated in Pune, Maharashtra, this temple is very popular among the people of the state. The main idol of Ganapati is said to be insured for an enormous sum of Rs.1 crore.
The Chaturshringi Temple is located on Senapati Bapat Road in Pune, Maharashtra. Local rumors state that, a merchant named Durlabhseth, who was an ardent devotee of Goddess Chaturshringi, dreamt of the Goddess, who told him to dig a certain place in the northwest of Pune. That is where he found an idol of the Goddess and built a temple at the same place. Chaturshringi, as the name suggests, chatur meaning four, is mountain with four peaks. It is noted for symbolizing faith and power.

Situated in the southern end of Pune, Parvati hill is one of the most picturesque locations of the city. It houses four temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In order to attain a marvelous view of the entire city from this point, one needs to climb 108 steps to reach its tip. The Parvati Museum, which displays replicas of manuscripts and paintings from the ancient time, is a must-visit place when visiting this spot.
The Pataleshwar Cave Temple was constructed in the 8th century by cutting out rocks. This temple is a shrine of the God of Underwater and also has a shivling inside it. It is located on the J M Road in Shivaji Nagar, Pune, and is popular for a museum, which proudly houses a rice grain inscribed with 5000 characters and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

The Shinde Chhatri houses the Samadhi of the great Maratha leader, Mahadji Shinde. It was constructed in the year 1794 and has a silver idol of the great leader in it. It is an epitome of architectural excellence depicting the rich heritage of the Peshwas in an Anglo-Rajasthani way.
Saras Baug is a 25-acre land consisting of a Ganesh Temple. This place was occupied by a small lake previously and Saras Baug was created on it when the lake dried. Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, commonly known as Rajiv Gandhi Zoo is a must-visit place in Katraj, Pune. It houses a huge diversity of fauna from across the country. Located in the west of the city, over the Mula River, Mulshi Dam is yet another paradise for the nature lovers. One can come closer to nature by resting in the resorts built around the lake, which is formed by the water of the Mula River. Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is a three-storey building, which houses over 20,000 objects. Many of these are day-to-day objects of the Peshwa period and others are instruments of music, war weapons and other ornaments dating back to the Mughal and Maratha period. It depicts the collection of Dr. Dinkar G. Kelkar, which was handed over to the Department of Archaeology in the year 1962. It also showcases Dinkars efforts to recreate Mastani Mahal from the remnants for the original Mahal.

Yet another dam adding to the scenic beauty of Pune is the Khadakwasla Dam, situated on the Mutha River. Originally built in 1879, this dam had to be blown off in 1961 due to the overflow of dam water causing floods. It was later recreated with three different outlets to minimize the risk of floods.
