The Apu Picol, 鈥淎pu鈥 in Qhechua language means a lord guardian, is a mountain located 5 miles southeast of the city of Cusco, in San Jer贸nimo district. Over 14000 feet high, its summit can be seen from any point of the city. It has a characteristic skyline enhanced by a big slide due to a geological fault. From its summit, we can observe the Apu Pachatusan and the imposing Ausangate, the highest peak in the region with 21000 feet!.
At its bottom, we can visit the archaeological site of Larapa. These sets of terraces constitute the most important grouping of structures for crops production and irrigation of the pre-Hispanic time in the valley of Cusco. In addition, there are many other archaeological remains around San Jer贸nimo, such as the Pata Pata and Puskar terraces, showing this area was an important settlement in Inca times.
Nowadays, the agricultural activities in the terraces are maintained for the production of potatoes and corn, and grazed by cattle and sheep. The tradition of local farmers conserve alive these centenarian practices.Snacks and water
