Our West Papua birding tour covers the western part of the New Guinea (used to be called Irian Jaya). You will be guided to the best spots to see the beautiful species of birds in West Papua, including the famous Birds of Paradise.
West Papua has more than 678 recorded bird species, contributes around 44% of all Indonesian's birds total. It is also the second place on earth which inherits the second largest number of Birds Of Paradise.
From all 43 species of this amazing birds of paradise, which are only distributed from eastern Australia to New Guinea, west to the north Moluccas, 28 species can be seen at West Papua areas, with 5 species of them are endemic to this region.
All our itinerary component is flexible and can be modified to suit your interest and preference. Our standard is usually using 3 star hotel with standard AC transportation, but if you wish to have higher standard of accommodation and transportation, we are more than happy to provide the suggestion except in some remote area where only available standard transportation and non star hotel for example in Borneo, and Papua.
Day 1 : Manokwari Arrival
Welcome to Manokwari. Meet and greet with your guide and transfer to hotel.
In the afternoon we drive to North Beach about 1 hour to explore Saibeba village and pami where you can see kind of birds like parrots, lori, king fisher and other endemic birds. Late in the afternoon drive back to the hotel.
Day 2 : Papua Birding Tour - Manokwari.
Early breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we explore the northwest of Manokwari to watch birds such as Papuan Hornbill (Rhyticeros plicatus) Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) and Yellow-faced Myna (Mino dumontii). After lunch, we walk deeper into the jungle to watch Eclectus Parrot, Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus), Variable Goshawk, Moluccan King Parrot, Pinon Imperial Pigeon (Ducula pinon), Beautiful Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus pulchellus), Great Cuckoo Dove, Yellow-capped Pygmy Parrot (Micropsitta keiensis), and a lot of other birds that make the Mesirrokow forest as its natural habitat. We drive back to the hotel late in the afternoon.
Day 3 : Papua Bird Watching in Arfak Mountain
We will be based at Kwau Village with daily visit to up higher elevation to allow us to see different species with our main target on: 7 species of BOPs (Long-tailed Paradigala, Superb BOP, Western Parotia, Magnificent, Black and Buff-tailed Sicklebill, Arfak Astrapia), 1 species of Bowerbirds (Vogelkop Bowerbird), plus other non BOP/Bowerbird, such as: the Wattled Brush-turkey, New Guinea Harpy Eagle, Black-mantled Goshawk, White-striped Forest-Rail, Black-billed Cuckoo-Dove, White-breasted Fruit-Dove, Papuan Mountain Pigeon, Rufescent Imperial Pigeon, White-throated Pigeon, Papuan & Yellow-billed Lorikeet, Blue-collared & Vulturine Parrot, Modest & Brehm鈥檚 Tiger Parrot, Chesnut-breasted Cuckoo, Papuan Boobook, Feline & Mountain Owlet Nightjar, Lesser Ground, Ashy, Smoky, Blue-grey, Green-backed & Garnet Robin, Lesser Malampita, Grey and Brown-breasted Gerygone, Rusty and Mountain Mouse Warbler, Vogelkop, Perplexing, Papuan & Grey-green Scrub-wren, Black & Rufous-backed Fantail, Mountain Peltops, Canary Flycather, Black and Yellow-breasted Boatbill, Dwarf, Sclater鈥檚, Vogelkop, Lorenz & Rufous-naped Whistler, Black Pitohui, Tit Berrypecker, Western Mountain-eye, Dwarf & Rufous-sided Honeyeater, Mountain Red-headed and Red-collared Myzomela, Western Smoky Honey-eater, Cinnamon browed and Ornate Melidectes, Papuan Parrot Finch, Spotted Catbird, Black Sittella, and some other birds.
Day 4 : Papua Bird Watching in Arfak Mountain
