Following convenient pickup from your Bucharest hotel, head into the Jewish Quarter, where the community began flourishing in the 1400s. See the sights where Jewish merchants first opened their shops, and pass by the towering Jewish Museum. Once a synagogue, the museum survived World War II and now houses an enormous collection of books, paintings, and theater memorabilia that focus on the contribution of Jews to Romanian culture.

Continue on toward the Great Polish Synagogue, a mid-19th-century building dedicated to Jewish martyrs and Moses Rosen, Romania's Chief Rabbi for 30 years until his death in 1994. Travel to see the State Jewish Theater, the oldest Yiddish-language theater in the world with uninterrupted activity.

Your final stop of the day is the Holocaust Memorial, unveiled only as recently as 2009. Built nearly 70 years after the tragic genocide, the structure finally recognizes Romania's role in the killing of European Jews.
