Arunachal Pradesh is, by far, one of the most beautiful parts of North East India. An Arunachal Pradesh tour, no matter which part of the state you are visiting is an experience in itself. This tour to Eastern Arunachal Pradesh, just like our Mechuka Tour, which is also a tour to Eastern Arunachal Pradesh, takes you through some of the most offbeat and enchanting parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
An offbeat North East India tour in its real sense.
Short Itinerary
Day 1 – Dibrugarh to Miao
Day 2 – Miao – Namdhapa – Miao
Day 3 – Miao – Wakro
Day 4 – Wakro – Walong
Day 5 – Walong
Day 6 – Walong – Wakro
Day 7 – Wakro – Dibrugarh
Day 1 : Dibrugarh To Miao [180 kms]
Our trip to one of the most off-beat places in North East India starts at Dibrugarh. Today, we will drive to a small town called Miao. To be able to reach on time and to enjoy some interesting places on the way, book a flight that lands early in the morning and latest by 10-10:30 AM.
On our way from Dibrugarh and towards Miao, we cross the oil town of Digboi. Digboi Oil Field is the first oil field of Asia. If time allows, we will also visit the Oil India Museum at Digboi, which is a very interesting place to visit.
We will reach Miao by evening and check in to our simple abode for the night.
Day 2 : Miao – Namdhapa – Miao [~100 kms]
The not so heard of yet extremely gorgeous Namdhapa National Park is in Miao. The plan for today is to visit this breathtakingly beautiful gem and explore the diverse flora and fauna of the park, known for its rich biodiversity. We will go for a jungle trek inside the park, enjoying birding, nature walks, and wildlife spotting.
After our Namdhapa Jungle trek, we proceed to the Tibetian villages nearby and also visit their Arts and Crafts center there. It is a great place to buy some handmade souvenirs to take back home with you.
By evening, we head back to our stay at Miao.
Day 3 : Miao – Wakro [~140 kms]
Today after breakfast, we start our journey further east, to Wakro. The drive from Maio town to Wakro is a beautiful one, with many interesting reasons to stop on the way. The most interesting one being the Golden Pagoda, also known as the Kongmu-Kham, in the Tai Khamti language.
The Buddha’s statue here is the world’s tallest Buddhist statue made out of bamboo and cane.
After spending time at the golden pagoda at Namsai, we proceed to a nice resort by the river-side to relax and spend some time to slow down. You can also try a nice Tai-Khamti meal here.
By late evening, we will check in to our stay at Wakro.
Day 4 : Wakro – Walong [~220 kms]
It’s going to be a long day today. First, because the drive is long and secondly, because, it is one of the most picturesque drives of the region. This means you will be taking multiple stops just to gawk at the beauty around you and take tons of pictures.
The one downside of this route however is the fact that this route has very few eateries on the way. So, for lunch, you will have to make do with whatever you get en route or you live on the biscuits and snacks that you are carrying with you. But one thing can be said with confidence, the views en route more than makeup for this small inconvenience.
Talk about offbeat travel in North East India, eh?
Day 5 : Exploring Walong [180 kms]
Today we spend the entire day exploring the surroundings of Walong and learning about the unique culture and way of life of the local tribes here.
Walong also has a War Memorial which has great historical significance and is a must-visit place when in this part of Arunachal Pradesh. As a first stop, we will visit this historic place to learn about the role Walong played during the 1962 Indo-China war.
From the Walong War memorial, we head to the Walong waterfall. And from there, we head to the Namti plains, where the Indian and the Chinese forces had a historic faceoff.
The war memorial also has some old Live ammunition, the ones that failed to go off. From there, we proceed to the China viewpoint, a place from where China can be seen with the naked eye.
And from there, we then head to the Kaho village, the Eastern most village of India.
Be back to our stay in Walong for the night.
Day 6 : Walong – Wakro and Trek to Dong Valley to Witness The earliest sunrise in India [~220 kms]
Today we start our journey back to Wakro. However, if one of the reasons you have come so far is to witness the magic of Dong Valley where, every morning, the sun’s rays touch India first, you are going to have a very long day today.
Before you can start the 1 hour and 20 mins trek to the Dong Valley, you will have to get up and leave by 2 am from your stay, to reach the trek’s starting point on time.
Come back to your stay, freshen up, and then start your return journey to Wakro which will take around 6.6.5 hours.
Day 7 : Wakro – Dibrugarh [~180 kms]
Yesterday had been a long day so, you can plan to start at ease today, provided your flight is later in the day. Do not book flights in the first half.
Before starting the final leg of your return journey, time permitting, we visit the extremely beautiful Parshuram Kund, also known as Bramh kund, and spend some time there.
We then, head down from the heights of Arunachal Pradesh to the plains of Assam, in about 4 or so hours, inching towards the end of a wonderful and enriching trip.
Our hearts filled with countless memories from the past few days and dreams to be back again, sometime soon.
With the drop in Dibrugarh, finally, a wonderful trip comes to an end. But it’s just the trip that has come to an end, your relationships with the lovely people you have met in the course of the past few days, have only begun
