HAURAKI PLAINS & THAMES
An early pickup from your accommodation sees us heading South-Eastward to the Hauraki Plains and onward to the rugged Coromandel Ranges that forms the peninsula. The region is rich in history of Maori settlement and culture, colonial NZ gold mining and giant Kauri milling operations. Nowadays the region bursts at the seams in the Summer holiday season as the pilgrimage of beach lovers from the nearby towns and cities escape to the pristine coastal nooks and crannies of the Coromandel Peninsula.
HOT WATER BEACH AND CATHEDRAL COVE
Our itinerary today is timed carefully to ensure that we arrive at Hot Water Beach in perfect time to enjoy the hot spa which bubbles up through the sands of this curious and very popular bay. We provide the spades for you to dig your own private hot pool.
We are also in the same neighbourhood as the internationally renowned Cathedral Cove. We recommend an unforgettable cruise with Hahei explorer, or a kayak adventure with Cathedral Cove kayaks (schedule dependent), or a quick trip around the coast from Hahei with the Cathedral Cove water taxi. Alternatively you are free to undertake an independent scenic spectacular 1陆 hour return trek to view the majestic rock formations at Cathedral Cove.
Note: cost of recommended third party operators not included in tour cost.
DRIVING CREEK RAILWAY
Our Coromandel adventure includes a ride on the famous Driving Creek Railway, a boutique bush railway, artistic sanctuary and workshop for local and international potters, which was designed and built by the iconic local potter Barry Brickell.
KAURI TREES AND WATERFALLS ON A CLASSIC KIWI BACK ROAD
Our journey across the peninsula is via a 'rustic kiwi back road' which takes us into the heart of the Coromandel Ranges. You have the chance to get up close and personal with a 600 year old Kauri grove (also known as tree hugging) and crystal clear rivers and waterfalls, perhaps an exhiliarating fresh water dip for those brave enough!
COROMANDEL GOLD MINING RELICS
If trekking through forests and digging holes in the sand at hot water beach are not your thing; we may be able to offer a personalised option exploring the gold mining history of the region. Check tour availability with us if this adventure sounds more like you!
