Upper Dolpo Trekking has been referred to as the last enclave of pure Tibetan culture with the landscape and Buddhist religion of this region more like Tibet in pre Chinese times than of the rest of Nepal. This region has a vast and rugged landscape inhabited by a hardy, enterprising folk who live in some of the highest villages in the world.
Upper Dolpo is a culturally Tibetan region in West Nepal and during the course of the trek we will visit many Buddhist and B枚npo (shamanistic pre Buddhist) monasteries. Up until 1996 foreigners were not allowed access to this region so the culture has largely been unaffected by tourism. Of particular interest is Shey Gompa, this is revered as one of most important in Upper Dolpo where twice a year pilgrims make a kora (or circuit) of Crystal Mountain known as a younger brother of Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Upper Dolpo was first written about by David Snelgrove in his book titled "Himalayan Pilgrimmage" and more recently by Peter Matthiessen in "The Snow Leopard". This region was used as the location for Eric Valli鈥檚 superb film 鈥淗imalaya鈥�.Dolpo Trekking provides you with sites of spectacular lakes, authentic Buddhist monasteries and plentiful wildlife (including Blue sheep, mountain goat, jackal, wolf and snow leopard). • Day 1 : Kathmandu

  Arrival Kathmandu. transfer to hotel.
• Day 2 : Trekking

  Preparation day for trekking.
• Day 3 : Kathmandu - Nepalgun

  Flight Kathmandu - Nepalgunj.
• Day 4 : Nepaljung to Juphal

  Flight from Nepaljung to Juphal then trek to Dunai (2150m)
• Day 5 : Hanke

  Trek to Hanke (2600m).
• Day 6 : Sumdo

  Trek to Sumdo (3000m).
• Day 7 : Shey Phoksunmdo Lake

  Trek to Shey Phoksunmdo Lake (3738m).
• Day 8 : Rest day

  Rest day. Today we rest to admire the beauty of this great lake. We visit nearby villages inhabited by Bon and Buddhist Settlers.
• Day 9 : Numla Phedi

  Trek to Numla Phedi (5000m).
• Day 10 : Numla Bagala Pass

  Numla Bagala Pass (5190m).
• Day 11 : Tokyu

  Trek to Tokyu.
• Day 12 : Trek

  Trek to Do (4040m).
• Day 13 : Guru Gompa

  Trek to Guru Gompa.
• Day 14 : Charka La Phedi

  Trek to Charka La Phedi (4900m).
