Day 1 : Scone Palace, Castles, Whisky and Glens
Leaving Edinburgh, we journey north over the forth road bridge which gives us spectacular views of the iconic Victorian Forth Rail Bridge, completed in 1890 and regarded as one of the engineering wonders of the world. As we travel through the Kingdom of Fife, we reach the extensive grounds of Scone Palace,once the ancient capital of the Picts until 843AD when Kenneth MacAlpin, was crowned King of the Scots & Picts using the Stone of Scone, also knowing as the Stone of Destiny to legitimise the coronation.
After a tour of the gothic palace & grounds, we travel along the scenic back roads to the beautiful picture-postcard town of Dunkeld, where we shall explore the romantic grounds of the towns 13th-century cathedral and quaint narrow streets.
Moving on we keep to the scenic Perthshire, back roads, through the dramatic landscape of Sma鈥橤len, also known as the Narrow Glen, to The Glenturret Distillery, for an in-depth tour of the Famous Grouse Experience, and a tasting of Glenturret single malt.
From Glenturret, we then make the 40 min drive to visit the magnificent Stirling Castle, one of Scotland鈥檚 grandest medieval castles. If time permits you can explore the grounds of the castle and the impressive 16th-century structures, including the Royal Palace and the Great Hall. From the castle esplanade, you can view spectacular vistas of the National Wallace Monument, completed in 1869 to commemorate Sir William Wallace, ( Braveheart) Scotland鈥檚 13th-century hero. From Stirling, we make our way back to your accommodation. and sadly say our fair wells.
