Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrive in Paro

  The flight into Paro on our national carrier- Druk Air is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather- magnificent views of the world鈥檚 highest peaks give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. First gift from Bhutan will be the cool- clean fresh air as you step out of the plane. After your visa formalities you will be greeted by our representatives and drive you to Thimphu- capital city of Bhutan. The remainder of the day is free to rest and relax.
• Day 2 : Sightseeing in Thimphu

  After breakfast we drive to the north end of the road to Dodina and hike an hour up a steep hill to visit Cheri monastery- built in 1620 by Zhabdrun Ngawang Namgyel and established with an original staff of 40 monks. Now a days the monastery serves as the main meditation center of the country and has more than70 monks undergoing their three year- three month retreat. Inside is a silver chorten holding the ashes of the Zhabdrung鈥檚 father. On our return- we will visit Tango Monastery founded in the 12th century. It is now a Buddhist Institute for higher learning.
• Day 3 : Drive to Paro

  Our morning tour will include a visit to the School of Arts and Crafts- where Bhutanese children can follow a six year programe in traditional arts- such as drawing- painting- woodcarving- and sculpture. We will also visit the Textile museum- Bhutanese hand-made paper factory. In the afternoon we will drive to Paro to visit National museum and Rinpung Dzong itself built in 1644 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.
• Day 4 : Excursion to Taksang

  After breakfast- drive to Satsam Chorten to start the pilgrimage to Takstang - The Tiger's Nest. This serene monastery clings to a steep granite cliff about 700 meters above the valley floor. Being one of the most revered Buddhist sites- thousands of pilgrims travel here each year from all over the World. Lunch can be served at the cafeteria on the way- from where one can get a most spectacular view of the monastery on the opposite cliff. It takes about 2 and half hours to get there and about 2 hours to return down.
• Day 5 : Drive to Haa

  Drive about three hours to our camp in the Haa valley- lying along the western border of Bhutan. Haa was closed to all visitors until 2001. Our camp is in a beautiful grassy spot at the edge of a blue pine forest overlooking Haa la- and we may be able to visit a local family. Afternoon visit to Lhakhang Karpo (鈥渢emple of the white dove鈥�)- a monastery believed to have been built in the 8th century by a Tibetan King- Songtsen Gyempo- after he sent two doves (one black and one white) to find a sacred place to build a monastery.
• Day 6 : Trek to Saga La (5 hrs)

  We begin our trek by walking gradually uphill througha blue pine forest and farmland. As we climb it gets a little steeper and we walk along streams past rhododendron- juniper- spruce and birch trees. Linch served in a grassy meadow and continue to our camp at 11-800 feet about 43 minutes below Saga La pass. We will take an afternoon hike up to Saga La for views of Sacred Jhomolharo (24000 f) and several other peaks. We will have panoramic views of the Haa valley.
• Day 7 : Trek to Ningula (5-6 hrs)

  In the morning- we hike once again up to Saga La and then follow the ridge up and down to 13-200 feet and we may be able to catch a glimpse of Taksang Monastery from here. Continue steeply through dwarf rhododendron and down through narrow grazing paths. Camp at the Ningula in a rhododendron forest from where you will have a beautiful view of the peaks of Jhomolhari and Jichu Drake.
• Day 8 : Trek to Kung Karpo (6-7 hrs)

  Climb steeply back up to the ridge and cross the Kale La at 12-900f- with its views of Paro and the Haa valley. Weather permitting- we will have a terrific view of the Paro dzong and surrounding peaks including Kanchenjunga (28-208 f)- the third highest peak in the world. Continue climbing up to Kung Karpo at 13-500f-with view s of the mountains and both valleys again. Descend and traverse toward the Chele La (13-300f). Along the way- we pass a place where Mahayana Buddhist offer their newborn child to God: the Bhutanese do not participate in cremation and believe that if they offer their child to the God after their death- they will be born again very soon. All day today we will have clear views of the mountains and the Paro and Haa valleys (weather permitting). Once at the Clele La- we meet our vehicle and drive two hours to Paro.
• Day 9 : Departure

  Drive to Paro International airport for onward journey by Drukair/Bhutan Airlines in the morning. Our guide shall escort right to the airport to see you pass safely through customs and immigration formalities.
