The historical town of Gorkha is the traditional starting point for the Manslu expedition. The bus ride to Gorkha follows the Kathmandu 鈥 Pokhara road as far as Abu khaireni, and then climbs 24km to Gorkha. Overnight spend in lodge.
We walk today about 6-7 hours. The trail separates from here north-east toward Budhi Gandaki river. We follow the right trail toward Khanchowk bazaar for the night halt.
The route first enters the eastern part of Arughat, a large bazaar and turns west across the bridge over Budhi Gandaki. Soti Khola is a tiny village at the bank of Budhi Gandaki. There trail crosses the bridge and treks through beautiful sal forests, then climbs up onto a ridge above the huge rapids of Budhi Gandaki and follows a path blasted out of vertical rock to Khorsane bari.
The rocky trail then weaves it way up and down through large stand of nettles and passes tropical waterfalls. The trail eventually makes it way down and past a few rice terraces on a steep rocky trail and down then up around to the Gurung village of LabuBesi. Dropping to the sandy river bed at 860m from LabuBesi and climbing about 110m over a side ridge to bring you to Machha Khola village.
Crossing Tharo Khola reach to Khorlabesi and climbing over a small ridge, make another steep climbing, the route reaches Tatopani (930m), which means 鈥榟ot water鈥. The trail climbs over another ridge and crosses the Budhi Gandaki and climbs on a wide, well crafted staircase over a ridge to Doban (1000m). Trekking along the river for a while and climbing through small villages, you get to Jagat which is a beautiful flag stone village.
We will walk up about 6-7 hours day descending to the riverbed again. The old (west bank) trail goes from ghatta khola up to Pangsing, climbs to Ngyak (Nyak), a Gurung village perched high above the river at 2300m. This is one of the few large settlements on this route and home to the Manaslu Conservation Area Project office. From here you can view Mt. Lapuchun (5,950m).Spend your night in lodge.
There is a route from the bridge below the Bhi to Ghap that stays on the south bank of the river, passing through Prok (2380m) before rejoining the trail at Ghap. The trek takes us through a heavily forested area in a narrow valley and finally widens, offering a pleasant walk through bamboo forest and a collection of rock. Overnight in lodge.
The trails make a serious and long climb through bamboo and rhododendron forests crossing the river several times. The trail crosses the Budhi Gandaki twice on wooden bridges above beautiful gorges before entering Namrung through a stone archway. Namrung is a Buddhist village where there are monasteries, a water turbine, hydro electricity power house, Mani walls, chortens and prayer flags which can be seen fluttering in the sky.
You trek over a winding path which moves through the inner Himalayan range enjoying mountain views of Rupina la pass, Mt. Manaslu, Gorkha Himal, Dwijen Himal, Saula Himal, Lajing peak, and many other snow capped mountains and peaks. Climbing through a forest of firs, rhododendrons and oaks the trail enters the closely packed houses of Lihi (2900m) and several Buddhist villages along the way. The areas of Lho have been influenced by the Tibetan culture due to its proximity to Tibet, and as a result you will find many monasteries, chortens and mani-walls.
Drop down to Damonan khola, crossing it on a two span bridge. The trail emerges onto a plateau at shyaula (3520m) with wide vista of Himalchuli, Ngadi chulli and Manaslu. Having over one hundred and fifty houses, Samagaon is surprisingly large and bustles with the energy of remote village life. From Samagaon you can see Mt. Manaslu and the Kutang Himal Massif
Climb the ridge to the south of Samagoan to Pungyen Gompa. You continue on to Birendra Tal, a glacial lake at 3450m. Beyond the lake stepens and you need to be committed to climb the 1200m (3-4hrs) to the Manaslu Base camp.
Climbing period
We will have return of around 4hrs trek. We will again do short sightseeing at Sama village with early arrival from the Manaslu Base camp.
Retrace back to the same route to Nyak. It鈥檚 about 5-6 hrs journey.
We will walk up about 6-7 hours day ascending to the riverbed again. Jagat is a beautiful flag stone village where we spend our night in lodge.
We will cross Doban and Tatopani back to the same path to Jagat. It is full of amazing views all the way around.
Trek back to Arkhet from the trail passing through the Budhi Gandaki.
We walk today about 6-7 hours. Today is the last day in the mountain region.
