Package Overview

Nepal's longest and largest river, the Karnali, begins its life near to Tibet鈥檚 holy Mount Kailash. It carves its way through the Tibetan plateau and through the Himalaya into Nepal鈥檚 lush western forests. After the snow melt this river becomes a raging torrent with huge rapids which offers brilliant rafting and kayaking. A highlight is the 7km long gorge which is one long raging rapid that sucks you in one end and spits you out the other (in one piece!). This is one of the Nepal鈥檚 must do rivers.
Not only is the river a gem for its white water, but it鈥檚 course travels through a relatively unpopulated area, filled with pristine jungle allowing the paddler good chances of viewing the abundant wildlife like deer, leopards, tiger, jackals, mongoose, monkeys and small brown bears. Although the river is remote, the bus ride and short trek to the start point is pleasant and extremely scenic making it a worthwhile all round trip.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Kathgodam - Mahendranagar - Birendranagar (Surkhet)

  We meet at Kathgodam railway station (Early morning), get into car/coach and drive to Banbasa. Cross the border of India-Nepal and drive further to Mahendranagar. We will continue our long drive to Birendranagar. Evening check in Hotel where we also meet our Nepali rafting crew.
• Day 2 : Drive and Walk to Start Point - Raft

  After breakfast we continue our drive to Karnali put in point at Dungeshwar (5 hrs). This section of the drive offers yet unspoiled scenery of charming villages and farms. We will do short rafting trip after lunch to set up first night's camp by the bank of Karnali.
• Day 3 : Rafting

  The river gives the team, time to build. There are good rapids and water flow those allow learning errors. We still manage to get at least one great class IV rapid in. We camp and get excited about tomorrow.
• Day 4 : Rafting

  This is the type of day that people imagine when they think of Himalayan water. It is BIG and it is continuous. We enter into the Jungle Corridor. This is a narrowing jungle clad gorge and it is all ours. The team building is put into full practice and when your guide shouts "all forward" he really means it! Enjoy the ride all day and camp in this sensational setting.
• Day 5 : Rafting

  More of the same including the notorious GOD鈥橲 HOUSE rapid. Don't forget to take in the bird life which is equally as abundant as the lush vegetation. Camp and relax.
• Day 6 : Rafting

  It isn鈥檛 over yet! Keep paddling hard ! You really are experiencing the best of the west on yet another day of great action and breathe taking scenery.
• Day 7 : Rest Day

  This is a holiday after all, so we have programmed a rest day so you can take time to enjoy your surroundings and relax on a great sandy beach.
• Day 8 : Rafting

  We see the rapids dying off as we come out of the gorge. We pass the confluence with the Seti river where the river broadens. Today and the next day and a half are a chance to enjoy your journey admiring the country and villages you pass. You will have seen the safety kayakers in action and will no doubt be inspired, so ask the guides for some supervised instruction, or take over the raft and learn about the river.
• Day 9 : Raft/ Drive

  We come to the end of our journey at about lunch time where our bus will be waiting to collect us. Check in Hotel in Mahendranagar.
• Day 10 : Long Day Drive Back to Kathgodam Via Banbasa.

  A long day drive will take us back to India via Banbasa. Take night train from Kathgodam railway station.
