Jatinga Bird Watching centre, 57 Kms from the city is a beautiful destination to be visited especially in the months of November to February. It is one of the loveliest places to enjoy the holidays. It is home to various migratory birds such as Black Bittern, Tiger Bittern, Indian Pitta and Pond Heron etc. Jatinga is located in the North Cachar Hill district, Assam State in India. It is 330km south of Guwahati. Jatinga is a small village, 8 km south of Haflong town It is most famous for the phenomenon of birds "committing suicide". This small place of beauty is mainly inhabited by about 2,500 Jaintia tribal people. Perched on the Haflong ridge which is an offshoot of the imposing Borail range, this village is known worldwide for its bird mystery, which is as difficult as the Bermuda triangle to understand. At the end of the months of monsoon, the mysterious behavior of the birds takes place. During moonless and foggy dark nights between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., flying birds come crashing to the ground with no prior warning whatsoever. The local tribes first took this natural phenomenon to be spirits flying from the sky to terrorize them. This phenomenon is not confined to a single species, with Tiger Bittern, Black Bittern, Little Egret, Pond Heron, Indian Pitta and Kingfishers all being affected. Conditions make modifications of magnetic qualities of subterranean water in this sector. These changes disturb the physiological rhythm of the local birds and they start behaving abnormally towards the sources of light.Entrance fees to monuments.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Guwahati-Haflong

  Early morning departure to Haflong from Guwahati by Rail or by road,Check Inn hotel on arrival, and day free for leisure activities in Haflong. Overnight at Haflong Hotel.
• Day 2 : Jatinga-Haflong

  After breakfast transfer to Jatinga Bird Watching centre, Jatinga is situated 9 kms from Haflong town, the District Head Quarter of North Cachar Hills. Overnight at Haflong Hotel

  • Meals & Drinks Breakfast
• Day 3 : Haflong-Guwahati

  Today back to Guwahati.
