Day 1 : Paro
Your introduction to our enchanting kingdom begins on a flight over the Himalayas into the lush green valley of Paro; truly one of the world鈥檚 most spectacular sights. Flying into Paro, Bhutan is a unique experience altogether. You will view the world鈥檚 highest, most majestic peaks and enjoy the view of the approaching valley with its primeval alpine forest, monasteries, temples and farmhouse nestled in splendid mountain isolation.
After lunch drive for sightseeing including Ta Dzong, the National Museum of the Kingdom. Originally build as Watch tower on 1967.It is the National Museum of the country holding the fascinating collections of art, artifacts, thangkha paintings and Bhutan鈥檚 exquisite postage stamps. Later, drive to massive Rinpung Dzong, a hub for spiritual life and community events which has a long and fascinating history. There will also be a chance to wander around the small township of Paro. Over night at Paro.
Day 2 : Paro
Excursion to Taktsang
You will do an excursion to the Tiger's Nest. Drive to the Satsam Chorten and hike to the View Point of Taktsang (Tiger鈥檚 Nest.) The hike takes about 4 hours round trip. The name 鈥楾aktshang鈥檓eans 鈥淭iger鈥檚 Nest and it clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro Valley. It is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava, known as the second Buddha in Bhutan, came here in the 8th century on a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for 3 months, thereby subduing the demons that were trying to stop the spread of Buddhism. The saint then converted the Paro Valley into a Buddhist region.
Lunch at the Taktshang Cafeteria.
After lunch, visit Drugyel Dzong located 16 km away from the Paro town. Although in ruins, this Dzong is of great historical importance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the invading Tibetans and drove them back. From here Mountain Jumolhari(Moutain of Goddess) can be seen, hight of 7329m/24,029ft. Also visit Kichu Monastry one of the oldest monastery in Bhutan build in 7th Century. Overnight at Paro.
Day 3 : Paro to Jili Dzong Trek
(distance 5km, 11,000m ascent, camp Altitude 3,480m) to Jangchulakha(distance 11km, 4 hours,400m ascent, 50m descent, camp Altitude 3,770m)
The beginning day of the trek will be a long day; you have to climb more than 1,000m elevation. After breakfast, drive to the National museum where the trek starts. The trail is gradual up till the camp. Once you reach the Jili Dzong enjoy picnic lunch.
After Lunch Start the trail to Janchulakha. You begin with a climb for about an hour and a half and then ascend gradually up. The trail takes you through thick alpine forest and dwarf rhododendron tress. You may also see yaks and yak herders around your camp site. You will enjoy the soothing beauty of nature.
Day 4 : Jangchulakha - Jimilang Tsho
(Distance 12km/4 to 5 hours/ 370M Ascent, 350 Decent)
The trail follows the ridge and on the clear day the views of the mountain and valleys are sensational. Through the pass you arrive at your camp near by Jimilangtsho lakes. These lakes are famous for their giant sized trout. You can also enjoy the great views of Jichu Drake and Gangkar Puensum(7497m) Bhutan鈥檚 highest mountain. Overnight at camp(Altitude 3870m).
Day 5 : Jimilang Tsho - Simkotra Tsho
(Distance 11km, 4/5 hours, 820m ascent, 400m descent)
The trails climbs up from lower end of the lake through the dwarf rhododendron trees overlooking Janetsho lake. You may come across yak herder鈥檚 camp and get an idea how nomads live. Overnight at camp close to Simkota lake (Altitude 4110m).
Day 6 : Sikota - Phajodhing
(Distance 10km, 4hours, 130m ascent, 680m descent)
The journey starts with gradual climb and in a clear weather you will have a spectacular view of Mountain Gangkar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan. From this pass the trek is downhill till Thimphu. Overnight at camp in Phajodhing(Altitude 3750m).
Day 7 : Phajodhing - Thimphu
( Distance 5km, 3 hours, 1130m descent) End.
The trail starts crossing the Phajodhing Monastery the trek to Thimphu is all the way downhill passing through blue pine forest. After leisurely pace you reach Thimphu. Overnight at Thimphu Hotel.
Day 8 : Thimphu
After breakfast visit Trashichhodzong Courtyard. This massive building houses government ministries, the Throne Room and the residence of Chief Abbot. Also visit the following places of interest:
Zilukha Nunnery (Dupthop Lhakhang)
BBS Tower viewpoint
Textile Museum
Takin Reserve(National Animal)
School for traditional arts & Crafts
Folk Heritage Museum
Handicrafts Emporium
In the evening walk around the Thimphu market.
Day 9 : Thimphu to Abroad
After Breakfast drive to Paro International Airport and the next journey begins.
