Towering Wengen atop the Lauterbrunnen Valley
Wengen is nestled above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Valley of Waterfalls. With many holiday chalets and hotels dating back more than a century, this Bernese Oberland resort has retained all the character of a picture-postcard mountain village. It’s also a car-free village which makes it easy for you to walk the streets to shop or explore.

Below Wengen, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in the Swiss Alps. The snow capped peaks and soaring rock walls frame the fertile green valley and the high alpine meadows so that the landscape assumes a magical quality. Since the early 1800s, world travelers have been hiking in this majestic area where the Swiss have developed a system of trails that follow the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Meiringen awaits!
Set on the Aare River and at the junction of three mountain passes, Meiringen is not only one of the most beautiful towns in Switzerland, but also one of the most strategic as evidenced by some WWII tank traps set in the pastures leading to the Grimsel Pass. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stayed here and used nearby Reichenbach Falls as the setting where Sherlock Holmes falls to his death—only to be revived a few years later. Meiringen has made its name in great cuisine as the birthplace of the merengue.

This tour is a new offering for Alpenwild. Unlike most of our other tours where you hike to a new destination every day, this tour gives you the chance to get to know these 2 villages really well. When you arrive you have the opportunity to unpack and get comfortable in your hotel room since you will be staying in that village for the next 6 nights. Hiking days are more flexible, but still deliver beautiful sites and rewarding trails. Plus you will get a free day in each village to shop, explore, do some more hiking, or whatever else you would like to do!
