After breakfast, drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park in Debark along a good road. The 100km journey will take around 2hrs. At the headquarters of the national park, you will arrange your permits to the park and pick up your scout. After that, you will drive for another hour before you start your first day introductory walk. The first hike is an easy one along the northern edge of the escarpment with a nice view points over the foothills and plains of northern Ethiopia. You will encounter Gelada Baboon along this hike at Sankaber.
Today, you follow the northern escarpment eastward, before you descend a little into the Kaba Valley. After that, you climb up before you reach Geech Abyss and continue over a narrow ridge to a cliff where we have a spectacular view of the Abyss towards the Simien foothills. You will also find a large waterfall here where the Jinbar River is found. After lunch, you walk through fields of barley before you arrive at the idyllic village of Geech. From Geech village it is a short walk to Geech camp which is s good area to see the most important bird species of Ethiopia such as but not limited to the Lammergeyer and the Thick Billed Raven. After a relaxing afternoon, you will take a short hike up to Kedadit to admire a beautiful sunset plus the gorgeous shaded landscapes down to the cliff side towards to the eastern direction and return to the camp for dinner.
From Geech camp, you stroll through endless fields of Giant Lobelia before you reach the towering cliffs of Imet Gogo (3,926m). Here you will spend some time to explore the superb views over the mountain valleys below and strange shaped domes in the distance which you will see from up close at the end of the trip. After that you descend into the Jinbahir River Valley鈥攁 very different perspective of Imet Gogo and the volcanic landscape where it looks like big chunks of mountains have been blown away. The trail follows the edge of the escarpment, which is completely vertical here for several hundred meters. You will climb to a summit of 4,070m where you will have a lunch. After lunch, you descend to Chennek for about 2 hrs along a steep trail. From Chennek camp, there are spectacular views to admire in all directions. Sit down on a bench at the escarpment and try to spot the Walia Ibex in the late afternoon or in the early morning. Sometimes the Walia Ibex visit the edges of the campsite.
Drive from your Chennek campsite to Bahir Dar through the spectacular mountain views of Tara Gedam and Addis Zemen. After arrival, enjoy the lakeside view at Lake Tana.
Retrace to Addis Ababa which marks the end of your tour.
