This 8-day trek on the Lemosho Route offers a scenic and challenging ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, allowing trekkers to experience the diverse ecosystems of the mountain while ensuring proper acclimatization.
Day 1: Arrive in Arusha and meet your guide. Attend a pre-trek briefing and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Trek through lush rainforest to Forest Camp (9,500 feet).
Day 3: Ascend to Shira Camp 1 (11,500 feet) and begin acclimatization.
Day 4: Continue to Moir Hut (13,800 feet) with stunning views of the Shira Plateau.
Day 5: Hike to Lava Tower (15,190 feet) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (13,000 feet).
Day 6: Tackle the Barranco Wall and continue to Karanga Camp (13,100 feet).
Day 7: Trek to Barafu Camp (15,300 feet), the final camp before your summit attempt.
Day 8: Summit Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp (10,200 feet).

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by your professional guide and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha for a brief rest. Afterward, you will attend a comprehensive briefing where you鈥檒l learn about the Lemosho Route, safety protocols, and equipment checks. This evening, you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead, staying overnight at your lodge or hotel in Arusha.
After breakfast, you will drive to Lemosho Gate, the starting point of the trek. Once there, you鈥檒l complete the necessary park formalities and meet your trekking team, including guides, porters, and chefs. You will then begin your hike through the lush rainforest, covering approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) over 3-4 hours, with an elevation gain from 7,800 feet to 9,500 feet. After reaching Forest Camp, you will have your tents set up, enjoy a hearty meal, and rest, allowing time for acclimatization.
After breakfast, you will continue your ascent, trekking for approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) over 5-6 hours, gaining elevation from 9,500 feet to 11,500 feet. The route transitions from rainforest to moorland, offering expansive views as you approach Shira Camp 1. Upon arrival, you will set up camp, rest, and enjoy a nutritious dinner. This is an important day for acclimatization as you rest at a higher elevation.
Following breakfast, you will trek approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) over 5-6 hours, gaining elevation from 11,500 feet to 13,800 feet. The route provides stunning views of the Shira Plateau and surrounding landscapes. Upon reaching Moir Hut, you will set up camp, take time to rest, and acclimatize to the higher altitude. You will have a warm dinner and spend the night at Moir Hut, preparing for the days ahead.
After breakfast, you will trek approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) over 3-4 hours, gaining elevation from 13,800 feet to 15,190 feet, to reach Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation that provides panoramic views of the surrounding area. After spending time at Lava Tower, you will descend 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) over 2-3 hours, losing elevation from 15,190 feet to 13,000 feet, to reach Barranco Camp. This descent helps with acclimatization, and upon arrival, you will set up camp, enjoy a warm meal, and rest.
After breakfast, you will tackle the Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable ascent, covering approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) over 4-5 hours, with an elevation gain from 13,000 feet to 13,100 feet. As you climb, you鈥檒l be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. After conquering the Barranco Wall, you will continue through alpine desert terrain, reaching Karanga Camp, where you will rest for the night and prepare for the next day's trek.
Following breakfast, you will trek for approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) over 4-5 hours, with an elevation gain from 13,100 feet to 15,300 feet. As you ascend, you will be surrounded by stunning vistas of glaciers and snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, you will set up camp and rest in preparation for your summit attempt. You will attend a briefing to ensure you're fully prepared for the challenging summit climb ahead. In the evening, you will enjoy an early dinner and get some rest before the summit push.
In the early hours, you will begin your summit attempt, trekking approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) over 6-8 hours, with an elevation gain from 15,300 feet to 19,340 feet. The climb to Uhuru Peak takes you through the challenging sections of Stella Point, where you will be greeted by breathtaking views of the sunrise. After reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro, you will celebrate your achievement before beginning your descent. You will then make your way to Mweka Camp, covering approximately 13 kilometers (8 miles) over 5-7 hours, with an elevation loss from 19,340 feet to 10,200 feet. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a celebratory dinner and stay overnight to rest after the challenging day.
