The Rift Valley country of Lake Naivasha and surrounding parks 鈥� Crescent Island and Hell鈥檚 Gate Park 鈥� offer lots of close-up viewing opportunities to appreciate the rich birdlife and grazing antelope, gazelle, buffalo, giraffe, and more. We鈥檒l take a guided walk through the private sanctuary of Crescent Island, and bicycle, if you choose, over to the nearby dramatic geothermal landscapes of Hell鈥檚 Gate Park.

The Masai Mara Reserve is sometimes called the crown jewel of Kenya鈥檚 wildlife parks. This incredibly rich eco-system offers the densest concentration of lions and other animals in the region. Sightings of Africa鈥檚 鈥淏ig Five鈥� game are common, and you鈥檒l appreciate the park鈥檚 rolling savannahs and signature flat-topped acacia trees punctuating the landscape.

While at this special park, you may want to fully experience the cultural aspects of the Mara with an optional visit to a local Maasai village. Meet the original inhabitants of this land and learn about their lifestyle, history, and artistic endeavors.

And for a final safari adventure, indulge in an optional early morning hot air balloon safari over the reserve as the dawn breaks over the golden savannah and the herds of animals emerge into the new day.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Nairobi - Lake Naivasha - Crescent Island - Hell鈥檚 Gate National Park 2-Hour Drive

  Meals: Lunch & Dinner
  
  7:00 am 鈥� We鈥檒l pick you up from your hotel, the airport, or another place of your choosing.
  
  Hop into your private 4 x 4 Safari Jeep for the easy ride through the scenic Great Rift Valley with its vistas of dramatic escarpments.
  
  We will arrive at freshwater Lake Naivasha and embark on a water safari, keeping an eye out for hippos and the colorful birdlife such as pelicans and cormorants. Don鈥檛 be surprised to see antelope or buffalo grazing nearby on the shore.
  
  The private reserve of Crescent Island is a short trip away, and we will take a walking tour, strolling past giraffe, impala, gazelle, and buffalo. Hippos also roam this small island and we鈥檒l spot shorebirds as well.
  
  Then we can bicycle or take our 4 x 4 over to Hell鈥檚 Gate Park, to view towering escarpments, active steam vents, and hot springs punctuating this unusual spot. We鈥檒l drive or bicycle by giraffe, buffalo, antelope, and other grazers.
  
  As evening rolls in we鈥檒l retire to our safari lodge or tented camp near Lake Naivasha.

• Day 2 : Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara Reserve 5-6 Hour Drive

  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  
  When it comes to safaris, earlier is better for fully getting your fill of the wildlife. So, we鈥檒l be up with the birds for game drives through the forest and by the lake to see who we can spot.
  
  Then we鈥檒l head out to the Masai Mara, traveling through the Great Rift Valley with its rising escarpments and variegated landforms.
  
  We鈥檙e entering Masai country and after taking rest stops to appreciate the views, we enter the great reserve itself.
  
  The park is pleasing to the eye with its gently rolling hills and delightful acacia trees, so familiar in photos, especially around the orange sunsets.
  
  We鈥檒l have the first of many game drives over this far-stretching savannah, tracking lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and many of the 95 mammals that inhabit this most popular of parks.
  
  Come late afternoon, we鈥檒l head to our safari lodge or tented camp to enjoy the first of our evenings in the Mara.

• Day 3 : Masai Mara

  We鈥檙e up early again for a full day of game drives over the ever-inviting expanse of the park. While here at the Mara you can go on as many drives as you desire鈥� or take some time to relax at your accommodation 鈥� the choice is always yours. Just let your driver/guide know your preferences.
  
  Depending on what season you visit you may be greeted by the sight of thousands of wildebeests and zebras flooding through the park. This is the Great Migration (June 鈥� October) when up to two million animals cross into the reserve over the Mara River.
  
  Patiently awaiting their arrival are crocodiles, lions, cheetahs, and many other predators playing out the timeless cycle of life and survival. You just might find yourself in the middle of all this natural drama.
  
  For another kind of drama, take advantage of our optional early morning hot air balloon safari over the Mara. As the dawn light breaks, you鈥檒l be witness to the park coming alive below. It鈥檚 a fantastic experience and one your guide will be happy to arrange.
  
  To round out your Mara safari, enjoy a cultural encounter with the local Maasai people. This optional visit is always a special moment as you meet the villagers, learn about their customs and ceremonies, and perhaps pick up a colorful piece of their beaded handiwork.
  
  You鈥檒l spend your final evening at the Masai Mara at your lodge or tented camp.

  We鈥檒l enjoy breakfast at our accommodation and then jump into the 4 x 4 as we drive out of the park.
  
  On the drive back, we鈥檒l take breaks to enjoy the Rift Valley views and stop for lunch as well.
  
  We鈥檒l have you back in Nairobi in the late afternoon and bring you to your hotel, the airport, or another place of your choosing.
