What鈥檚 Cool About Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara
The Ngorongoro Crater is first up on our Tanzania journey. You鈥檒l head down the steep sides of this ancient formation in a 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep settling into the expansive lush bowl of woods, plains, and marshes, holding over 25,000 animals.

This is a world unto itself, mainly cut off from the rest of the continent but where you鈥檒l find lion, cheetah, leopard, and the jackal. All the large game are here like buffalo, elephant, rhino鈥� even wild dogs.

And when our day tour of the great caldera is complete, we鈥檒l head back up the crater walls to another astounding sight 鈥� one of the most glorious sunsets Africa has to offer.

Lake Manyara National Park is a jewel with its blue lake and thick green forest holding giraffe, impala, elephant, and even baboons. Look up at the acacia trees and you might spot a lion, lazing about on a tree branch. The park is known for this unusual sub-species.

Over at the alkaline lake, you鈥檙e sure to be delighted by the broad collection of fuchsia flamingoes amassed on the shoreline. The birds feed on the lake鈥檚 algae which has the fortunate effect of transmitting its reddish coloration to the flamingoes creating their vibrant display of pink feathers.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arusha 鈥� Ngorongoro 3 陆 Hour Drive

  Meals: Lunch, Dinner
  
  7:30 am: Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will swing by your hotel or other place of your choosing to begin your Tanzania adventure. Hop into your 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we鈥檒l hit the road, moving into Maasai country. Look for these traditional people in their colorful wraps, tending their cattle.
  
  It won鈥檛 be long before we arrive at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a great volcanic caldera sunk into a mighty expanse of land 鈥� 256 km (101 sq. mi). At the crater鈥檚 rim, we鈥檒l view the world鈥檚 largest intact caldera with vistas of its blue/green expanse.
  
  Hold on tight as we descend the steep crater walls in our 4 x 4 Jeep, coming to rest in a world of acacia forest, marsh, and massive grasslands. Here we鈥檒l discover one of the densest areas of wildlife with over 25,000 animals.
  
  We鈥檒l spend the day looking for lions, leopards, wildebeest, zebra, elephants, buffalo, and even hippos and pink flamingoes.
  
  Toward the late afternoon, we鈥檒l head back up the crater to be met by one of Africa鈥檚 best sunsets. Then, it鈥檚 on to our Ngorongoro accommodation to relax, have dinner, and marvel at our first safari day鈥檚 sightings.

  If we get up early we can make it back to the crater鈥檚 rim for a glorious Ngorongoro sunrise!
  
  Lake Manyara Park is not far off and you鈥檒l be met with the reserve鈥檚 arresting colors 鈥� the green of its acacia forests, the blue of the lake, and the exotic pinks of its thousands of flamingoes.
  
  And you won鈥檛 be alone in your admiration for this little gem of a reserve 鈥� Ernest Hemingway called it, 鈥淭he loveliest I had seen in Africa.鈥�
  
  You鈥檒l find all manner of wildlife in the park like warthogs, giraffes, elephants, and if you鈥檙e lucky, up in the acacia trees, Lake Manyara鈥檚 famous tree-climbing lions, resting up on a branch!
  
  We鈥檒l spend our second safari night at our Lake Manyara lodge or tented camp.

• Day 3 : Lake Manyara 鈥� Arusha 2 Hour Drive

  Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
  
  The park is extra lovely early in the morning with the sun鈥檚 first rays upon the forest and the lake. Enjoy this peaceful time and then it鈥檚 off to breakfast.
  
  One more game drive around the park for perhaps a final glance at a tree-climbing lion and then it鈥檚 time to head to Arusha.
  
  During our trip back, we鈥檒l pause for lunch and soak up the safari ambiance all about us.
  
  We鈥檒l have you back at your hotel, residence, or airport in the afternoon.
