Nagarahole is known as when Nagarahole (Cobra watercourse within the native language, Kannada), a winding watercourse that runs eastward through its centre. placed within the 2 districts of Mysore and Kodagu within the state of Mysore.



It was originally well-grooved into a sanctuary within the year 1955 covering a section of 258 sq. kms and later enlarged to incorporate the connected areas of Mysore district and currently extends over a section of 643.39 sq. kms that was given the standing of a park in 1983



Nagarahole park forms apart of the Nilgiri part Reserve and along with Bandipur park (875 sq. kms) and Mudumalai life Sanctuary (325 sq. kms) to its South East and Wayanad (350 sq. kms) to the South-West, is one in all the last remaining and best protected habitats for species just like the Elephant and also the Tiger.
