6 Nights / 7 Days
Experience the exciting touch of Mt. Kenya and Samburu Game Reserves, with a view of rare species of kudu and dominant giraffes. This is a chance to interact with the local community during the hike.
Pick up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and drive through the central part of Kenya, making stopovers to view pineapple plantations, coffee, and tea farms, as well as the Equator line at 0 degrees. Check in at Simba's Hotel in Nanyuki Town, located 2000 meters above sea level, with views of the peaks of Mount Kenya. Here, we will meet our crew, including the guide and porters. The guide will provide a briefing on the itinerary and the daily activities, and will introduce the porters who will carry the luggage for the trekkers. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, we will drive north and enter the Sirimon route to the Sirimon park gate (2,675 meters). After clearing with the park authorities, we will begin an acclimatization hike through the forest to Old Moses Camp (3,300 meters). The hike takes approximately 3 to 4 hours and is ideal for trekkers as it helps them adapt to the high altitude. This day is exciting as we may encounter small game, monkeys, baboons, antelopes, various species of trees, and wildflowers.
Our dinner and overnight stay will be at Old Moses Camp, where our meals will be expertly prepared by our cook.
After breakfast, we will start hiking through the moorland via Mackinder's Valley, passing through Shipton Caves on our way to Shipton's Camp. This day of hiking will take 7-8 hours at a slow pace. A packed lunch will be provided.
As we ascend, the vegetation becomes more scenic, with changes in size and shape. We will encounter lobelias and tussock grass, where you may spot mountain chat birds and rock hyraxes along the trail.
Our meals and overnight accommodations will be at Shipton's Camp, located at the foot of the peaks and overlooking the snow. Dinner will be served early this evening to allow trekkers more time to rest in preparation for the next day's ascent to the summit of Peak Lenana, which stands at 4,985 meters.
Pre-dawn at 3:00 AM, we will begin our ascent to the summit peak of Lenana, which stands at 4,985 meters. The trekking journey takes approximately six hours round trip. Trekkers are expected to reach the summit by sunrise. On a clear day, the views include Mount Kilimanjaro and the Indian Ocean. After enjoying the scenery and taking photos, we will descend to the camp for breakfast and a short rest. We will then continue our descent to Old Moses Camp, as we prefer resting at lower altitudes.
After breakfast, drive to the park gate to connect for transfer to Samburu Game. Check in at Samburu Riverside or Lions Cave, followed by afternoon game viewing. There is a chance of seeing lions, giraffes, leopards, elephants, zebras, antelopes, rhinos, and buffaloes, including greater and lesser kudu. Meals and overnight stay will be at the camp.
After breakfast, have a full day of game viewing in the park. An optional visit to a Samburu resident's village allows you to experience their culture and dances. Dinner and overnight stay will be in the camp.
After breakfast, drive to the Parkside Hotel in Nairobi.
