Jomolhari Loop is the shortest of the Jomolhari trekking routes, which are the most popular treks in Bhutan. With altitude differences of 2,500m and nearly 5,000m it offers a wide range of landscapes, fauna and flora. The highlight of this trek is the spectacular view of Mount Jomolhari from Jomolhari Base camp (Jangothang). Trekkers who want to avoid high passes and high altitude can chose an easier version of the Jomolhari Loop by retracing their steps from Jangothang (see days 1-3), while still having the majestic impressions of Mount Jomolhari.Both International & domestic Flight fares.

Day 1 : Arrive in Paro
Altitude: 2280m.
You will be welcome by our representatives at International airport. After completing customs & Immigration formalities.
Check in hotel-Paro.Afternoon visit, Drukyel Dzong, built in 1647 by Zhabdung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders. The glory of Drukgyel Dzong remained even when its was destroyed by fire in 1951. On a clear day, one can see the commanding view of Mount. Chomolhari from the village, below the Dzong.
Kyichu Lhakhang: One of the oldest Temple in Bhutan built in 7th Century by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo and the second temple built in 1968, by H.M. Ashi Kesang, the Queen Mother of Bhutan. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 2 : Gunitsawa Village 鈥 Sharna Zampa (Trek Start).
Campsite: Altitude 2,850m.
Distance: 40mins.
Trek road type: 80m descent.
This trek begins at Gunitsawa Village were you pass the army post. At the army checkpost your trek permit (provided by your tour operator) will be checked and endorsed. The campsite is on the opposite side of the river, not far from Gunitsawa.
Day 3 : Sharna Zampa 鈥 Thangthangkha
Campsite: Altitude 3,610m.
Distance: 22 km.
Estimated time: 7-8 hours.
Trek road type: 770m ascent & 10m descent.
On this long day, the trail continues with lots of small ups and downs.After going uphill through the river valley the valley finally narrows gradually to a mere path which descends to a meadow where a camp will be set up. From here, if weather permits, you will have the first great view of Mt. Jomolhari
Day 4 : Thangthangkha 鈥 Jangothang
Campsite: Altitude 4,080m.
Distance: 19 km.
Estimated time: 5-6 hours.
Trek road type: 480 m ascent.
If you did not see Mt. Jomolhari the previous evening, you will still have a chance to get a great view early this morning. This morning the trek continues up the Paro Chhu valley which widens into patches of alpine meadow and scanty growths of forest. You will cross an army checkpoint along the way and enjoy spectacular view of high mountain ridges and snow-capped peaks. In this area yaks and their herder鈥檚 homes become a regular feature of the landscape. Passing the village鈥檚 soe,Takethang and Dangochang is another asset on this day. You will again have a spectacular view of Mt. Jomolhari.
Day 5 : Jangothang Halt
The rest day in Jangothang provides plenty of possibilities for day hikes with great views of lakes and snow capped mountains such as Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. There are good chances to spot some blue sheep on the upper slopes of the valley. Jangothang is a perfect environment for your acclimatization. You can also trek up to Tosoh or hike around the area. There are good short hiking trails in three directions. Jomolhari and its subsidiary mountain chains lie direct west. Jichu Drake to the north and there are a numbers of unclimbed peaks to the east.
Day 6 : Jangothang to Soi Yaktsa
Campsite: Altitude 3,800m.
Distance: 16km.
Estimated time: 6-7 hours.
Trek road type: 810m ascent & 1,090m descent.
The trail leads to a last settlement in the valley and drops to the Paro Chhu. Passing the lake of Tshophu (4,380m) you will climb up steeply to Bhonte La pass at 4,890m, the highest point of this trek route. Reaching the Dhumzo Chhu river, you trek downstream passing the few houses of Soi Yakts (Dhumzo) to arrive to your camp soon after.
Day 7 : Soi Yaktsa to Thombu Shong.
Campsite: Altitude 4,180m.
Distance: 11km.
Estimated time: 4 -5 hours.
Trek road type: 720m ascent & 340m descent.
The trail climbs 100m over a ridge to drop to another stream then. After crossing the Takhung La pass (4,520m) you descent to Thombu Shong, three yak herder huts with your campsite next to them
Day 8 : Thombu Shong to Gunitsawa Village ( Trek End)
Campsite: Altitude 2,850m.
Distance: 13km.
Estimated time: 4 鈥 5 hours.
Trek road type: 200m ascent & 1,650m descent.
Crossing Thombu La pass (4,380m) you will finally reach Gunitsawa where you can be collected or you may decide to stay at the campsite, Sharna Zampa, where you stayed the first night of this trek
Day 9 : Gunitsawa 鈥 Thimphu
Altitude:2350m.
Distance: 55km
Estimated time: 2 hours.
After lunch in hotel, Visit National Memorial Chorten ,built in 1974 in the memory of Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.Takin Reserve, the National Animal of Bhutan, (budorcas taxicolor/ Drong Gyemtse鈥.) is found and radio tower, it offers splendid views of the city from a hilltop festooned with prayer flags.In the evening visit Tashichhodzong, the 鈥渇ortress of the glorious religion", built in 1641. It houses His Majesty鈥檚 Secretariat and the Central Monk Body. Across the river you can see the National Assembly building. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 10 : Thimphu Tour
Your visit will start from National Library, established in 1960 where an ancient texts and manuscripts are preserved.National Institute of Zorig Chusum, (commonly known as the Painting School), where a six-year training course is given in the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. Institute of Traditional Medicines Services, where the medicinal herbs abundant in the kingdom are compounded and dispensed.Textile Museum, which provides an excellent introduction about the techniques, style of various textiles woven in the country along with exhibition of the national dress 鈥榞ho鈥 for men and 鈥榢ira鈥 for women.Handicraft Emporium, which offers a wide range of colourful, hand woven textiles and other products.Centenary Farmer Vegetable Market, colorful market full of local produce and handicrafts, if your visit falls Friday to Sunday. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 11 : Thimphu Via Docula-Paro
Distance: 23km & 45 minutes drive.
Morning drive to Dochula ( altitude 3088m), where you can enjoy the viewpoint of Eastern Himalayas. The 108 chortens was built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan鈥檚 victory over Indian militants and to liberate the souls of the soldiers lost. Return route visit Semtokha Dzong,built in 1627 and it is the oldest Dzong in the country and now houses the School for Buddhist Studies.
Afternoon, visit Ta Dzong ( watchtower), built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan鈥檚 National Museum in 1968. Paro Dzong , is also known as Rinpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal , the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body , district administrative and judge of Paro district. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. A walk through the bridge, over a stone inlaid path, offers a good view of the architectural wonder of the Dzong as well as life around it.
Day 12 : International departure from Paro
