Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival

You will be met at Harare Airport and transferred to your hotel.

Check in and relax in the bustling capital city of Zimbabwe and enjoy an included dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

  • Day 2 : Great Zimbabwe Ruins

Today we travel 4-hours from Harare to the town of Masvingo (formerly know as Fort Victoria) - the gateway to the famous Great Zimbabwe Ruins.

Dating from around the 11th century, these iron-age ruins have been the source of much speculation over the years. Built without any mortar, some of the walls are up to 5 metres high and still standing after so many centuries. This is where eight carved birds were found, the image of which is found on the Zimbabwean flag.

After lunch (own account) we take a guided tour of these impressive ruins that are the remnants of a great African civilization. This huge fortress once housed over 25,000 citizens and engaged in trade as far afield as China. Built entirely from stone, the site covers over 1,800 acres (7 sq. km). View the Acropolis, the Great Enclosure and the Conical Tower, as well as many other structures in these ruins that are the largest and oldest in Southern Africa, and are second only to the Egyptian pyramids.

  • Day 3 : Bulawayo

We leave Masvingo this morning and travel 3-hours to Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe with its large tree-lined streets and beautiful parks - a legacy of Cecil John Rhodes,, the imperialist who claimed Rhodesia for the British empire.

After lunch (for own account) we learn more about this beautiful country by visiting Bulawayo Museum, before checking into our hotel.

  • Day 4 : Matopos Hills

A full day excursion today to the Matopos Hills, an area of exceptional beauty with a colourful and mythical history.

Highlights include the great granite boulders for which the park is renowned, bushman paintings and the "View of the World" where Rhodes is buried. We may also see black rhino and plains game, but this area is particularly famous for its dense concentration of birds of prey, including black eagles (a picnic lunch is included today).

  • Day 5 : Hwange National Park

Today we travel 4-hours from Bulawayo to your safari lodge in Hwange National Park, the largest game park in Zimbabwe.

Check in, settle in and relax in this remote wildlife area before enjoying a thrilling safari drive in an open top game viewing vehicle accompanied by a lodge ranger. With over 100 different species of mammals, including huge herds of elephants and many predators, a marvellous wildlife experience is guaranteed. The bird life is also outstanding.

  • Day 6 : Hwange National Park

Today is devoted to game viewing in Hwange National Park, which is the size of Belgium.

Rise early to take advantage of the best game viewing conditions of the day, as you enjoy a thrilling open top game drive in Hwange National Park with your ranger. Covering a vast area of over 5,600 square miles (14,600 square kilometres) and in close proximity to the arid Kalahari desert, this remote wildlife sanctuary is renowned for its enormous population of elephants, as well as vast herds of buffalo, zebra and giraffe. It is home to many predators including lions, hyena and endangered wild dogs which are thriving in the region.

The rest of the morning is free to relax at your lodge, before setting out again in the late afternoon for another game drive. Enjoy another spectacular African sunset and relax around an open fire, before enjoying dinner.

  • Day 7 : Victoria Falls

This morning we leave Hwange National Park and travel to the Painted Dog conservation centre. The wild dog is an endangered species and here you will learn more about the efforts being made to preserve these beautiful animals from extinction.

We continue 3-hours to your hotel near Victoria Falls on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, where your tour ends.

Check in and relax whilst you catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Smoke That Thunders first discovered by Dr. David Livingstone and still one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls is greatest from February to June following the summer rains, but they are a magnificent sight at any time of year.

  • Day 8 : Victoria Falls

Today we recommend exploring on foot the mighty Victoria Falls and its rainforest, which offers magnificent views.

Afterwards you can participate in other optional activities such as a helicopter flight over the falls or an elephant interaction.

In the late afternoon we recommend an optional Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River where you may see hippos, crocodiles and abundant bird life.

Note: We suggest you take your own raincoat for walking in the rainforest, as those on hire are well used.

  • Day 9 : Departure

Transfer to Victoria Falls Airport for your flight home.
