Visit Morocco鈥檚 gorgeous Atlantic coastline and take a trip into the Sahara desert to visit the Berbers
Day 1 : Marrakech to Essaouira
We鈥檒l pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech at 8am before heading toward the seaside port of Essaouira. The road toward Essaouira is absolutely beautiful, flanked by hundreds of the country鈥檚 native argan nut trees, olive trees, and other gorgeous fruit trees. We can stop along the way for any photos you want to take, and we鈥檒l be happy to discuss what you鈥檇 like to see in Essaouira once we arrive.
Once we鈥檝e arrived, we鈥檒l start our adventure by exploring the town. We鈥檒l check out the winding streets of the medina where locals sell a variety of handmade goods, walk along the beachfront admiring the view, and enjoy the delicious seafood at one of the many nearby restaurants.
The town is perfect for really getting a sense of Morocco鈥檚 atmosphere, without being as busy as Marrakech. Once you鈥檝e seen everything you want to see, we鈥檒l head to a nearby hotel for the night and get a good night鈥檚 sleep before the next part of the tour.
Day 2 : Essaouira to Sidi Ifni
We鈥檒l start the day off with a traditional Moroccan breakfast before heading out of Essaouira. We鈥檒l follow the coastal road south toward Sidi Ifni, taking in the stunning views of the Atlantic coastline as we go.
We鈥檒l pass through the resort town of Agadir, through Tiznit, and back onto the coastal road that takes us towards Sidi Ifni. This little seaside town is stuffed full of little wonders. With a stunning beach to explore, lots of little markets and stores to pick up interesting gifts, and incredible architecture on show, it鈥檚 easy to soak in the Moroccan atmosphere.
We鈥檒l grab a traditional Moroccan dinner and relax before heading to the nearby hotel to rest for the night.
Day 3 : Sidi Ifni to Tafraoute
From Sidi Ifni, we turn north again to Tiznit, where we can stop to browse through the jewellery stores. Tiznit is well known for its number of expert silversmiths, so you鈥檙e likely to find a beautiful souvenir to pick up while you鈥檙e here.
After wandering around the local markets, we鈥檒l jump back in the 4脳4 and head towards Tafraoute. This route takes us through the Anti-Atlas mountains, past the towns of Tighmi and Tizourgane, before we reach our destination. Along the way we鈥檒l stop to admire the scenery, as this really is one of the most beautiful routes in North Africa, with stunning vistas of the mountains, snaking rivers surrounded by lush woodland, and views for miles around.
Once we鈥檝e arrived at Tafraoute, we鈥檒l have dinner and stay the night at a nearby hotel before the next step toward Taroudant.
Day 4 : Tafraoute to Taroudant
Hidden away inside a small circle of mountains, Tafraoute is a serene gem of a town that is well worth the trip. This little town is filled with friendly locals who鈥檒l welcome you as a guest.
Despite its size, Tafraoute offers plenty of things to do 鈥 from the diverse range of shops selling locally handmade goods like camel wool carpets, jewellery, or souvenirs from the local villages, to rock climbing!
Once we鈥檝e explored the town, we鈥檒l set off toward Taroudant via the Ait Baha river road. This road is considered one of the most beautiful in Morocco, with plenty of wildlife to see and hundreds of beautiful fruit trees along the way.
We鈥檒l arrive at Taroudant, which looks like a 鈥渕ini Marrakech鈥 thanks to its similar architecture and colours. Taroudant is a classic example of a Moroccan market town, with large walls surrounding the main market, plenty of shops and stalls to browse through, and the local hammam where locals have their communal baths.
After exploring the town, we鈥檒l head back to our hotel for the night.
Day 5 : Taroudant to Erg Chigaga
We鈥檒l meet up for breakfast before continuing our journey towards the Sahara.
The road takes us through Tizi-n-Tighatine and Tizi-n-Ikhsane, where you鈥檒l start to notice the surroundings become more desert-like. We鈥檒l then stop at Kourkouda and Tazenakht, meeting the locals and browsing through the famous Berber carpets they sell.
We鈥檒l then travel to Foum-Zguid for a Moroccan lunch and continue our journey south, arriving at the very edge of the Sahara. Before coming across the Saharan dunes, we鈥檒l explore Lake Iriqui. Although this lake dried up years ago, it鈥檚 well known for its abundance of fossils. If you鈥檙e lucky, you might even find one yourself!
After heading through the rest of the arid desert (known as 鈥渞eg desert鈥) we鈥檒l arrive at the Chigaga dunes. These dunes stretch as far as the eye can see and are usually completely silent. We鈥檒l meet up with nearby Berbers and try out a camel ride towards the main camp where we鈥檒l spend the night. You鈥檒l be able to try out Berber food (it鈥檚 delicious!), climb the dunes to watch the sunset, and spend the night watching the crystal clear stars before heading into your own personal Berber tent.
Day 6 : Chigaga to Ouarzazate
After breakfast with the Berbers, we鈥檒l head back to the 4脳4 and begin our journey towards Ouarzazate.
We鈥檒l head through M鈥檋amid, the Sacred Oasis, and continue through the stunning Draa valley towards Zagora where we鈥檒l stop to stretch our legs and explore.
We鈥檒l then continue on our journey, following the ancient routes used by the old Berber caravans, crossing through the Sahara, the mountains, across the river, and towards Agdz. This entire trip is calm, quiet, and utterly beautiful.
At the top of the valley in Agdz sits Kasbah Tamnougalt: one of the best-known Kasbahs in the country which we鈥檒l stop and explore. There are a number of local families still living here, which we鈥檒l greet before continuing on our journey towards Ouarzazate. Once we鈥檝e arrived, we鈥檒l explore a little bit before heading towards a hotel to stay the night.
Day 7 : Ouarzazate to Marrakech
After breakfast at our hotel, we鈥檒l head back towards Marrakech via Ait Benhaddou: Morocco鈥檚 most famous kasbah, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ait Benhaddou is perfect for those who love history. It鈥檚 filled with beautiful architecture, lots of different buildings to explore, and the odd market to browse through.
Our journey continues through the Ounila valley towards Telouet, where we鈥檒l visit the kasbah and have lunch. We鈥檒l then continue on the final part of our trip towards Marrakech, arriving in the early evening, giving you time to explore, pack, relax, and say goodbye before your flight home.
