Bhagsunath Temple, Kangra is a beautiful temple that is situated amidst the lovely pools and lush greenery. It is one of the oldest temples of Mcleodganj, which is for over 3 kms drive from the hill station. Popularly known as Bhagsunath Temple, the temple is of utmost significance for all the localites there consisting of Hindus as well as Gorkhas. There are two pools around the Bhagsunath Temple, which are considered to be sacred and have some magical powers. The temple also has famous tourist spots such as Dal Lake and the Kotwali Bazaar.
History:
As far as the history of the Bhagsunath Temple, Kangra is concerned, it is believed that when King Bhagsu stole water from the sacred Nag Dal Lake of Mcleodganj, the Nag Devta or the Snake God happened to be very angry on him. Sometime later, the King had to repent his actions, and that’s when he erected this temple in order to seek forgiveness from the Nag Devta. Therefore, this holy temple was built in reverence of the Snake God. There is also a double-storey wooden house that is constructed alongside the temple in order to provide shelter for the pilgrims and is credited to the Gorkha community.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Bhagsunath Temple is in the month of September. The reason why we are saying so is because it is the month when there is annual fair that takes place. The temple remains crowded and full of devotees during this month in order to enjoy the colourful celebrations and the great pomp and show.
How to Reach:
It is very easy to reach Bhagsunath Temple as it is situated at a distance of just 2 kilometres from the Mcleodganj Bus Stand. From the bus stand, you can easily walk down your way to the temple and if walking is not your cup of tea then you can go and hire a cab for yourself.

Bhagsunag Temple is famous for architecture and its history. There is no entry fee to get into the temple and for the holy visit. There is no particular time to visit Bhagsunath Temple, Kangra, but it is adviced that one must visit before sunset and after sunrise. One would take for over 1-2 hours to visit the temple. Bhagsunath Temple is an amazing place to be and you will enjoy your trip to the temple.
